Immigration

Certain farms need year round guest workers - like a dairy. The US does not allow this.

While we wait for Congress to act, let's take advantage of the pool of vetted migrants currently in the US - the 4 million migrants waiting for their asylum hearing.

Immigration Policy

  • The US does not allow farmers to hire long-term migrant workers, who are essential for dairies and other farms.  

  • A significant percentage of migrants would like to make money in the US for 5 years and then return to their home country and purchase a farm.  This is already happening outside of the legal system. 

  • Let's take advantage of the 4 million asylum seekers waiting for their hearing - the grant rate is 25%, which means 3 million people will need to be deported.  ​

  • The kindest method of deportation is self deportation. Let's make this happen.​

  • Give every asylum seeker (with no criminal record) an automatic agricultural work permit – if asylum is denied, allow them to work for 2 additional years so they have funds to go back home.  Allow the farmer to petition to renew these visas.  The migrant worker can then generate wealth and self-deport at any time as they will have funds to do so.  

  • We have already spent significant sums vetting these people.  Let's not lose that value.

  • This kills several birds with one stone:

  1. It is a humane way to allow asylum seekers to stay in the US or to self-deport;

  2. It addresses the labor shortage for farmers in Michigan;

  3. It allows the US to maintain a stable population or to manage a slow and linear decline – we can grant them citizenship to keep the population wherever we want.  China can't do that - and they are already experiencing what will be a massive decline in population.  The US has a superpower over China in that people still want to come to the US.  Let's leverage that.

  4. Self deportation saves the federal government deportation expenses.
